Editorial policy
This page explains how 9jaPulse decides what to publish, how stories are written and labelled, and what we will not do. 9jaPulse is published by a US-based company; see About.
Automated drafting, no pre-publication review
Stories on 9jaPulse are drafted automatically by a language model from reports published by Nigerian outlets and official bodies. No editor reads a story before it goes live. We say this plainly because readers should know how a page was produced.
Sources
- We read public RSS feeds and news sitemaps from 53 Nigerian publishers and official bodies, listed on the About page.
- Every story lists and links to each report it is based on. Nothing is added from outside those reports.
- A story page needs more than one outlet, or an official source such as the Police, FRSC, CBN, NEMA or NiMet. Single-outlet items appear only as a headline linking to the publisher.
Quality rules every draft must pass
- Numbers, names and places in our text must appear in the source reports.
- Long passages copied from a source without quotation marks are rejected.
- The summary must say who reported or said each claim.
- Headlines are factual, under 95 characters and do not start with labels such as “Breaking”.
- Stock filler phrases and hype are rejected.
Drafts that fail are not published as story pages. Pages we consider thin or duplicative are marked noindex so that search engines do not list them.
Labels
- Developing: an event reported in the last few hours; the page updates as more outlets report.
- Unconfirmed: an incident reported by only one outlet and no official source.
- Automated digest: a page built from source extracts rather than a full draft.
- Updates: each story page keeps a dated list of changes.
Crime, accidents and privacy
Single-source reports of crimes, accidents and disasters are held back until a second outlet or an official source confirms them. We do not name private individuals such as victims, relatives, witnesses or suspects who have not been charged.
Advertising
Advertising is kept separate from news. Ads are labelled “Ad”; betting ads are labelled “Ad · 18+”, carry a responsible-play line and use sponsored links. Ads never appear in the forum, tips or reader forms. Advertisers do not influence coverage. Details: Advertise.
